The New Moon and its Influence

A New Moon represents a new beginning, the start of a new cycle. It is a good time to set an essential intention in line with the energy of the sign, so that it can grow along with the Moon's growth phase.

What Is a New Moon?

During a New Moon, the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth. We only see the shadow side, and from Earth it appears as if they are in the same place. They are conjunct, at the same degree to the minute. There is a New Moon every 28 days, and this takes place in the sign where the Sun is, so it corresponds with the sign of the month. In the period between April 21 and May 20, it is in Taurus. And in the period between May 21 and June 21, it is always in Gemini. Etc.

New Beginning

The New Moon contains initial energy. It is just visible and has the potential to grow. Its energy is closely related to the sign it is in. For example, Virgo stands for bringing order to chaos, being of service to the greater whole and health. A new moon in Virgo is therefore ideal for getting organized or detoxing. A New Moon in Leo, on the other hand, has a completely different energy. Leo represents integrity, self-expression and courage. Natural authority, enthusiasm and pride.

Set in Motion

The Moon represents your inner self, your emotions, vulnerabilities and dependencies. It also stands for your instinctive reactions. In addition, the Moon governs your daily rhythm. The Moon is responsible for the tides. Your physical body also consists largely of water, so it has just as much influence on you.

The New Moon marks the end of the waning phase of the Moon and the start of the waxing phase. Although the energy is less intense and powerful, it does have a movement and a change of direction to it, which you can use for your own life.  

Making Full Use of the New Moon's Energy

If you want to work optimally with the energy of the Moon, it is good to know which house it falls in your birth chart. The houses represent your different areas of life. That way, during a new Moon, you can initiate change in a more focused way in the area of life it relates to. The first house, for example, is about your identity, self-awareness, the “I". Whereas the 7th house is about long-term relationships, “you". 

There are numerous websites with a tool that provides a visual representation of your birth chart based on the date, time and place of your birth. The numbers in the inner circle represent the houses (1 to 12). 

Lunar Cycle

Many people are especially focused on the Full Moon because the energy is more intense then, but it's a cycle. An interplay with the energy of the New Moon. During the Full Moon you close and release what is no longer appropriate and serving you, and during the New Moon you make a fresh start with an essential intention with energetic campaign for what you do want in that particular area of life.
