ASTROLOGICAL UPDATE

New moon in Virgo

September 11, 2026

On September 11, 2026, there is a new moon in Virgo. A new moon in Virgo brings attention to everything that needs to function practically in daily life. Work, health, routines, appointments, and systems are closely examined. What still works? What needs to be adjusted? And where has something become more complicated than necessary?

That sounds like a fairly practical new moon. Yet, much more is at play this time as well. Around the new moon, three major astrological configurations form simultaneously, with Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, playing a central role in two of them. As a result, new information and changing circumstances may make it clear that not only the execution, but also the starting point needs to be reconsidered.

01

What actually works?

Virgo wants to set things straight: analyze, correct, and make it practically workable. The new moon forms a sextile with Mars in Cancer, which also creates a need to actually change something, especially when it comes to home, family, care, and safety. For example, you might decide to organize your work differently, redistribute tasks at home, or adjust a daily routine because you notice that the current way demands too much of you.

However, during the search for a solution, it may turn out that a small adjustment is not enough. Perhaps you try to work more efficiently while you no longer actually support your work. Or you try to organize activities better, while the real problem lies in an unequal distribution of responsibility. Or you look for ways to cut costs and discover that your financial choices no longer align with what you value.

02

Venus and Chiron touch values and safety

Venus in Scorpio opposes Chiron in Taurus and these form a rectangle together with the lunar nodes. Venus in Scorpio brings themes such as intimacy, trust, loyalty, money, possessions, and shared interests to the forefront. Scorpio wants to know what is really going on and at the same time can hold on tightly to what feels important.

On the other hand, Chiron is retrograde in Taurus. As a result, old insecurities regarding self-worth, physical safety, existential security, and the need for stability can be felt once again.

The lunar nodes then place this within a broader developmental process. The North Node in Aquarius drives the development toward cooperation, equality, groups, and new social structures. And the South Node in Leo shows which forms of recognition, status, personal visibility, and leadership are becoming increasingly less fitting.

You can notice this concretely, for example, when a conversation about money reveals a difference in values. Or when it becomes clear in a relationship that give and take are not in balance. Or when you notice at work that appreciation or security is an important reason for holding onto a certain position.

03

Mercury at a turning point

Mercury is at 0° Libra and forms a Yod, also known as the finger of God, with Chiron and the North Node. Because Mercury is the ruler of this new moon, it takes on extra weight. Mercury in Libra tries to place different perspectives side by side. It seeks reasonableness, balance, and agreements that various parties can move forward with.

Only, Mercury is here at a point where it is in alignment with Chiron and the North Node. What seems logical or efficient is thus also weighed against safety, carrying capacity, equality, and the direction in which something develops further.

For example, you might receive information that makes you look at a job or collaboration differently. A conversation with your partner can make it clear that you are acting from different expectations. A proposal that seems financially attractive may turn out to be a heavy burden in practice. Conversely, an opportunity you didn't take seriously at first can suddenly become interesting because you discover that it aligns much better with where you want to go.

Because Mercury is at 0° Libra, the world axis, this can also become collectively visible in larger discussions, public communication, political or societal choices, negotiations, and new agreements. Astrologically, the world axis magnifies the symbolism of visibility and collective relevance.

04

Renewal and discernment

Mercury is simultaneously part of a Kite. Mercury in Libra, Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius form a large triangle together in air signs. Neptune in Aries is opposite Mercury and forms the fourth corner that creates a Kite.

Uranus in Gemini will change our approach to information, communication, technology, knowledge, and connection in the coming years. During the new moon, Uranus is stationary (coming to a standstill) before turning retrograde (moving backward from Earth's perspective). This makes Uranus extra powerful.

Pluto in Aquarius is underway with a much longer transformation of groups, networks, societal systems, technology, and collective power structures. Because Pluto is turning retrograde, that is now much more internally focused. Pluto makes visible what is hidden deep within systems. Thus, within a relationship, communication may be the visible problem, while underneath lies an unequal distribution of power or dependency.

Mercury connects the developments of Uranus and Pluto. As a result, new information can quickly open up new possibilities. Technological developments can change existing systems. Other forms of communication and collaboration may emerge because the old way simply no longer suffices.

However, right opposite Mercury stands Neptune, creating an important field of tension. Neptune in Aries provides inspiration and can open up a new vision, while the image can become obscured. Because of the opposition with Neptune, this directly affects information and decision-making.

Something can sound convincing without being entirely true. A vision of the future can be appealing because people want to believe in it. A technological development can be impressive while its consequences are still insufficiently understood.

That makes discernment important, and the new moon in Virgo helps us with that. Virgo doesn't take something for granted just because it sounds nice. Virgo wants to investigate, test, and apply it. Show me that it works.

05

How sustainable is the growth?

Saturn in Aries also goes retrograde and forms a trine with Jupiter in Leo. Jupiter wants to grow, create, and expand opportunities. Saturn wants to know whether that growth is also sustainable. Saturn retrograde in Aries can cause you to backtrack on something you started or decided earlier. For example, a new position turns out to involve more responsibilities than expected, or you realize you rushed into something too quickly. It is about reassessing whether you truly stand behind your own choice and can handle the consequences.

Jupiter in Leo also acquires a special significance through the lunar nodes. Jupiter magnifies Leo's creative and expressive power, while the South Node closely examines old Leo patterns. The development of the North Node in Aquarius increasingly raises the question of how individual qualities can become part of something larger, without everything remaining dependent on a single person or central figure.

06

How can you notice this new moon?

Perhaps you just want to change your work rhythm. You have a conversation about money. An agreement within a relationship no longer works. You want to approach your health differently. Or you discover a system or technology that makes something much more efficient.

Subsequently, it may turn out that behind such a practical issue lies a much larger change. Your work no longer fits with what you find important. A financial problem touches upon a deeper insecurity. A relationship calls for different dynamics. A clever solution turns out to have consequences you hadn't initially considered.

Or you get new information that suddenly makes you look differently at a decision you thought you had already made.

Mercury is at the apex of both the Yod and the Kite. Information can set a lot in motion around this new moon. Therefore, it is wise not to jump to conclusions. See what actually becomes visible.

07

The essence of this new moon in Virgo

A lot is happening all at once around this new moon. Yet the core of it is surprisingly simple.

The rectangle connects vulnerability around values and safety with a larger developmental direction. The Yod forces Mercury to align the way we think, communicate, and make decisions with it. At the same time, the Kite opens a flow of new ideas, information, and collective change. And in the middle of it all is the new moon in Virgo, which brings it back to daily practice and asks you the question: does it really work?

For a vision of the future can be wonderful, but ultimately it must be livable. A system can be efficient, but it also has to function for the people who are part of it. A choice may seem logical, while the underlying values no longer fit. And something you have derived certainty from for years may be precisely what is holding back the next development.
