ASTROLOGICAL UPDATE

New Moon in Scorpio

9 November 2026

Achieving more, growing bigger, harnessing new opportunities. It sounds appealing, but not every form of growth brings you closer to what you truly want. The New Moon in Scorpio on November 9 emphasizes the motives behind our ambitions. Which desires truly come from you and which are influenced by old beliefs, expectations, or the need to be seen?

On November 9, 2026 at 08:02, the new moon is in Scorpio at 17°. Scorpio is about depth, intensity, trust, dependence, power, and everything that lies beneath the surface. This sign is not satisfied with a quick answer. It wants to know what is really going on.

The Sun, Moon and Mercury are all in Scorpio. Mercury and Venus are still retrograde and will return directly on November 13th, with Venus in the night of November 13th to 14th. Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Cheiron remain in retrograde for even longer, allowing the review to proceed on a deeper level. Moreover, Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, is out of bounds and intensifies the intensity of this new moon.

At the same time, Mars and Jupiter are together in Leo, at the South Node. This combination reinforces the urge to act, to achieve something, and to show oneself off. But while Mars and Jupiter are moving forward, the retrograde planets are asking us to reconsider earlier choices, motives, and expectations. This creates tension between the desire to grow further and the question of whether we are still following the right direction.

01

The new moon in Scorpio: a beginning from the depths

During a new moon, the sun and the moon are at the same point. What you want and what you feel and need come together. That makes it a natural moment to set an intention and start something new.

In Scorpio, a new beginning looks different than in other signs. Scorpio is a fixed water sign: emotionally deep, loyal, and with great endurance. It often involves fundamentally changing something. Scorpio is the sign of transformation and rebirth. A new beginning often arises because something first has to end: something you cling to, a form of control, a fear, or a dependency that you have allowed to persist for too long.

This new moon is therefore suitable for an intention that goes deep. Where do you want to fully commit yourself? Where do you want to become more honest in your relationships, at work, or with yourself? And what are you willing to let go of to make that possible? Scorpio asks for commitment: not half-heartedly, but completely.

The downside of Scorpio is clinging on, wanting to maintain control, distrust, jealousy, and power struggles. What you have hidden beneath the surface may come to the surface with greater intensity around this new moon than you expect. The sun and moon form a large square with Mars in Leo, which becomes stronger in the days after the new moon. There is a tug-of-war between what is still developing on the inside and the urge to act now and become visible. That can lead to impatience or lead to clashes. Since both are in a fixed sign, neither side wants to give in easily.

02

A new beginning that begins with revision

A new moon usually signifies a new beginning. This time, that new beginning doesn’t come about because you immediately start doing something completely different. It comes about because you look at something old in such a thorough way that a different choice becomes possible.

Mercury retrograde in Scorpio brings old conversations, information, and conclusions back to the forefront. Something that seemed insignificant earlier suddenly gains meaning. Or you realize that you made a decision based on an assumption that didn't hold up.

Venus retrograde in Libra focuses attention on what you value. That includes relationships, but also self-worth, the balance between giving and taking, and the price you are willing to pay in time, money, or energy. The question is not just ‘does this relationship or collaboration still make sense?’ but also ‘does what I value still make sense?’

What is still unclear about the new moon could be much better placed after November 13.

03

Mercury and Pluto: what is really true?

Mercury retrograde makes a square with Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio, making this aspect strongly connected to the theme of this new moon.

Mercurius looks back at conversations and information and wants to understand what is really going on. Pluto in Aquarius shows that your opinions and choices are often influenced more than you think: by the group you belong to, by what you read online, or by people and organizations with power. The question is: do I think this myself, or have I taken it over?

Pluto is off limits until November 10. That means that Pluto is further south than the sun ever comes. A planet that is off limits does not adhere to the usual boundaries. The energy works more intensely, is more unpredictable, and is less controllable.

With Pluto, the power dynamics, crises, and hidden layers in systems can therefore manifest more dramatically and unpredictably. You can also recognize this in the demonstrations and riots in Europe. Pluto reinforces the Scorpio theme of this new moon. The information that is now coming to light could have more impact than you would expect.

That can manifest itself in conversations where power or control is involved, in information that had previously remained hidden, or in a story that you want to explore in depth. The constructive side is in-depth research and psychological insight. The downside is distrust, constant questioning, or seeing hidden motives everywhere.

Mercurius also forms a quincunx with Saturn in Aries and with Uranus in Gemini. A quincunx requires adjustments: two things do not naturally go together. Saturn brings existing rules, responsibilities, and boundaries into focus again. Uranus brings new information and other ideas. Your way of thinking and communicating must adapt to this.

On November 13, Mercury will come to a standstill at 5° Scorpio, close to the square with Pluto and the quincunx with Uranus. Around that day, an insight that was still clouded around the new moon may be revealed.

04

Mars and Jupiter at the South Node: not all growth is future-oriented

Opposite that movement inwards is a completely different energy. Mars stands together with Jupiter in Leo, At the South Node and opposite the North Node in Waterman. Mars prompts action, Jupiter amplifies it. In Leo, it’s about creating, leading, becoming visible, and taking risks. Since July, the moon knots on the Waterman–Leo axis and the focus shifts from ‘how do I get noticed?’ to ‘what do I really wear?’

Around this new moon, that shift becomes even more visible, precisely at the point where personal recognition, status, and the need to be seen are starting to play a too big role. In society, we see this reflected in leaders who present themselves as the one who can solve the problem, in grandiose promises and prestige projects, and in displays of power: who is the strongest and who has the final say? At the same time, the movement of networks, citizen initiatives, and communities where not one person is in charge is growing. What seems grand and successful is not necessarily the direction that the future will take.

Because the Sun, Moon, Mars, and Jupiter are all in a fixed sign, people and organizations easily cling to their own beliefs, positions, or ideas about how things should be. This can make the differences even greater. Around November 16, Mars and Jupiter are conjunct at 26° Leo, on the South Node, and around November 18, the Sun forms a square with Mars, Jupiter, and the Moon nodes. During these days, this theme becomes even more active.

05

Venus and Cheiron: working together without giving up individuality

Venus retrograde in Libra stands opposite Cheiron retrograde in Aries. Venus in Libra is about how we interact with each other: collaboration, agreements, an equitable distribution and equality. Cheiron in Aries touches the collective wound of existence: does every person and every group have the space to be there and make their own choices?

At work, this can be seen, for example, in a team where everyone goes along to preserve the sweet peace, while one colleague is constantly overlooked. Or in a reorganization or new work arrangements that appear honest on paper, but in which employees feel they have to downplay themselves. In society, we see it in groups that feel they are not heard and therefore have to make themselves heard louder, and in discussions about who has to adapt and how much room there is to be different. Because Venus and Chiron are both retrograde, old agreements and old pain come back up again.

At the same time, Venus, Chiron, Jupiter and the lunar nodes form a mystical rectangle: two axes of tension that are interconnected by harmonious aspects. Venus in Libra asks: is the relationship equal? Chiron in Aries asks: does each have the right to be there? Jupiter and Mars in Leo ask: who leads and who is seen? The North Node in Aquarius asks: does it serve the community as a whole?

The solution does not lie in abandoning one’s individuality for the greater whole, nor in each individual’s own efforts alone. The mystical rectangle shows that these contradictions do not have to be resolved through conflict. A new form of cooperation can emerge in which individuality and community coexist. This does not require that all the pain of the past be resolved first.

06

What can you notice about this new moon?

The common thread is always the same: something wants to grow, but first it becomes clear what lies beneath it. A few examples to clarify.

At work, you want to make a project bigger, but during the review process you discover that the collaboration or division of labor needs to be done differently first. Or you get a chance to put something bigger together and suddenly wonder why you actually want that visibility.

When looking at money again, you realize that it’s not just about the amount, but also about trust, value, or dependence.

In relationships, an old conversation can resurface. Not necessarily to end the relationship, but because you now see better what was going on back then.

You may also notice that you have been doing something for years to gain recognition, while you no longer find it valuable. Or you feel tension between your own creative direction and what a group or community expects of you. The solution then doesn’t have to be a choice between the two, but a new form in which both can exist.

07

The essence of this new moon in Scorpio

This New Moon in Scorpio brings a tension between the need to move forward and the need to first explore what truly drives you. Mars and Jupiter in Leo strengthen the ambition to achieve something, create something, or make something bigger. But with Mercury and Venus retrograde, previous choices, expectations, and beliefs are again calling for attention.

The square between Mercury and Pluto makes it important to critically examine information and the influence of others on your thinking. What do you really know, what do you accept and to what extent do you let your choices be determined by the need for recognition, control or confirmation?

In collaboration and relationships too, the relationship between individuality and the common good comes to the fore. This can mean that existing relationships are reviewed to create a form in which you can be yourself while simultaneously contributing to something greater.

In short, what do you really want to grow, and does that stem from what is important to you or from what you think you need to achieve?
